Thanks to everyone who entered! We really enjoyed watching all of your submissions.

Welcome to the fourth Video Contest! For this contest, head to YouTube and choose a video to recreate! Film, edit, and upload your hilarious, moving, or amazing video - it can be any type, as long as it’s all recreated in Rec Room. The final result may NOT be original or an interpretation, it MUST be a recreation of the original video.

Editing and post-production are allowed, but the majority of the content should be in Rec Room itself!

PS4 / PSVR players: You can use PS share to gather clips! Tutorial HERE.

Oculus Quest players: The Quest has built in recording to gather clips. Tutorial HERE.

If you would like to use the Rec Room Streamer Cam for more camera angles, find a PC player to add to your team to be a camera operator! Streamer cam tutorial HERE, and streamer cam for PC Screen mode tutorial HERE.

Unfortunately for now the streamer cam only works on PC due to Sony and Oculus Quest restrictions. We will continue looking into ways we may be able to bring more views to those platforms in the future!

How do I submit a video?

Join the Rec Room Discord Server and post a YouTube link to your video in the #video-contest-submissions channel. The video can be unlisted or public but we would prefer you make it public so that everyone in the community and online can watch it! Be sure to read all of the rules below before submitting.

Prizes

Every winner gets an exclusive in game t-shirt and trophy! There will be 20 winning videos with up to 5 credited creators per video. The video can have as many people as you need in it, but only 5 can get rewards.

When is the contest?

It runs Friday, June 25th to Friday, July 9th, at 11:59 PM Pacific time.

Rules

  1. The video must be a minimum of 1 minute long, and must not exceed 3 minutes. Credits do not count towards the final time.

  2. The video must fit the category of YouTube Video Recreation.

  3. The video must be uploaded to YouTube and submitted to the #video-contest-submissions in the Rec Room Discord between the dates June 25, 2021 and July 9th, 2021 (ending at 11:59pm PDT).

  4. You MUST link the original video in the description. No exceptions!

  5. You may submit multiple videos to the contest or work on a number of different projects. If you are part of multiple winning projects / videos you receive one shirt and one trophy like everyone else.

  6. You are allowed to use old footage and clips, but the result must be a new creation/video.

  7. The video must adhere to the Rec Room Code of Conduct.

  8. All of the creators’ in-game @usernames (up to 5 per video) must be in the description or in the video in order to receive prizes. Be sure you use the unique @username shown in your profile and not display names (which is shown above your head and can be changed).

  9. All sources and audio must be credited in the description or in the video.

Extra info:

  • We have a policy on swear words being in videos! Words like "hell", "damn", "crap", and "goddamn" are fine without censors. Please bleep out anything else!

  • You can either use the original audio from the video itself, or dub it over yourself! Both are viable options.

What can I use for recording or editing?

Here are some handy links for some free editing and recording software, if needed!

The audio/music I want to use is copyrighted, and YouTube won’t let me upload it!

It is important for everyone to be aware that YouTube has a copyright system. Some songs will not be allowed to be uploaded or used for this reason. There is a way for you to be able to check if you can use the song you want before you start your project! Simply upload an unlisted video to a channel, and check to see if it will let you use it publicly. Here’s instructions on how to check!

  1. Open up your editing program, and put the song into it. No visuals are necessary.

  2. Render the video in full.

  3. Go to your YouTube channel, and click the little camera with the + inside of it in the top right corner, then click “Upload video”.

  4. Under “Select Files to upload”, click the “Public” box, and select “Unlisted”.

  5. Either drag and drop the rendered video into it, or click the image above “Select files to upload” to navigate and select the video.

  6. Wait for the video to upload and process. Once it’s complete, press “Done” in the top right corner.

  7. Click the title or the picture to go to the video.

  8. Click “Edit Video” under the Share and Save buttons.

  9. On the right side of the screen, in the “Visibility” box, it may just say “Unlisted”. If there’s nothing else in that box, you’re good to go!

  10. If not, and it says “Unlisted, copyright claim”. Click on that box, and click “View copyright claim details”.

  11.  Under “Channel impact”, if it says “Not affected”, you’re good to go! You can use that song without the video being denied or it affecting your channel.

YouTubers with monetized videos! Be sure to turn off monetization for this video to avoid it being removed and strikes to your channel.

Questions?

If you have any questions, feel free to DM emilywafflesyay or HairyManLegs on the Rec Room Discord Server.

We would like to specify that if you are unsure if the original video of you want to recreate is appropriate for this contest, don’t be afraid to ask either HairyManLegs or emilywafflesyay via dm’s before you start your project.
